Has anyone experienced pain in the ribs and in the breast bone area. Also it hurts so much to touch that I can no longer wear a bra and I see bruising.
Any others out there experience any of this with fibromyalgia?
I can completely relate to this, although I feel as if I am bruised, there never seems to be any actual bruises that I can see. I actually avoid wearing bras unless I have to and if I do I buy ones that have no seams or metal rings or clips if possible (more like tank tops) and take them off again as soon as I get home. I can get away with this as I am small breasted but for others this may not be an option. I haven't found anything that helps relieve the soreness, although warm showers are nice (I don't like baths but it might be nice too if you do)
If nothing else I hope this reply helps in that you have agreement that this is not something strange but does happen to others with fms.
So sorry that it's happening to you and I hope you can find something to relieve the pain.

Thanks for your reply Kate. In some spots I actually do see a bruise, like near the bottom of my sernum. I just feel like I have been beat up. Somedays it hurts to breath. I had been in remission for a couple of years and decided to do Homeopathic treatment, it wasn't working very well and expensive so I quit and that's when I started with the FM again. Have you ever heard of this happening.
I really don't have a diagnosis, but that what my family Dr. says. I am having a colonescopy on Monday morning and an endoscope as well, I will mention all this to the specialist if I get to see him in the OR before the procedure.
The worst part of all this, is that at 54 years old my husband and I are raising two grandchildren age 8 and 3 and my energy is so low right know.

Even before I was diagnosed, I felt the pain in my ribs just below my breast. It felt swollen and bruised, even though it wasn't. I went to chiropractors and doctors, all trying to pop my rib back into place, because then I thought that was the problem. Even when they said it wasn't out of place, it felt like it was.
I read your comment and now I feel it wasn't just in my head :)
Thanks for your reply Sara, Do you remember even seing a bruise once in a while. When I get up in the a.m. it seems like everything hurts, my neck, my arms, my ribs.... is this normal with FM?
I keep asking questions, because I don't remember feeling this bad before. And it came on so quickly, one day I was complaining of a sore hip and next thing you know I can hardly move.
That is Chostrochondritis. It is caused by weakness in the cartilage of the breast bone and between the ribs. Your cells are starving. It lets us bruise more easily, too.
When you get everything working again to feed, rinse and lubricate body cells, it will stop almost immediately.
I'm guessing that when you sleep on your side you also feel a pain in your hip bone. That is also from the cartilage/tendons not being healthy. To me it hurt like something was being torn away.
Next time you hurt, try eating some Tums and drinking some water. (I'll spare you the long explanation of why this works.)
