Do you have fibromyalgia?
I have a friend/relative with fibromyalgia
About me:
My wife was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a few years ago. At first we (her family and I) thought it was just depression and she sought out a therapist. But gradually we began to realize that the depression was a symptom of something else. After a battery of test she was diagnosed with fibro, restless leg syndrome, clinical depression and a sleep disorder. Wow! All within three months. She survives on pain medication and weekly visits to a physical therapist, a psychologist, yoga, a holistic doctor, and playtime with her 11 month old nephew.

When things go wrong

Busy afternoon. Bhavana has been off since about mid November. She has been in more pain than usual. The pain had gotten so bad that she was throwing up. Today we got her an appointment with her holistic doctor, Wendy King, PhD, APN, in her Somerset, NJ office. We were there for almost two hours but Dr. King believes that a few shot that Bhavana had at the beginning of November, plus the change in weather ( where knew that barometric pressure could affect health… Continue

Difficult times

Bhavana has been wracked by major pain for the last few days. Last night she woke me in tears and all I could do was gently take her hand and wait. I don't know what to do. I feel completely useless. Today I offered to drive her to her physical therapy session but she refused and canceled. She thinks the increased pain is due to her menses. She recently changed birth control pills because the previous one had side effects.

The morning after

Yesterday was Thanksgiving and my wife and my family were over at my home. As usual we had too much food and too much work. Bhavana (my wife), over did it with cleaning and helping my mom create meal items for my side of the family ( I am from the West Indies and Bhavana is from India ). Today she is in bed, racked with pain ( and probably some regret ). She got up just a few minutes ago and stumbled over to the door and called to me. She needed her pain medication. She popped a handful of pills… Continue

Khurt,
I cannot imagine having someone around who cared as much as you do about your wife. It is rare and she is very lucky! My ex divorced me over this illness. He just thought I was crazy and a hypochondriac and now my sons are just as bad. They all just refuse to accept the reality of it. My mother had it as well, and was treated the same. She died with everyone and all her doctors thinking she was just a complainer. It is very hard having no support at all. NO help, no health care, no job, no nothing. A lot of us have lost everything because of all this. Those of you who are helping someone with this need to be ommended.

Thank you for welcoming me here. I have had Fibro for so long now I think I have done it all. There was one time a doctor had me on 75 different medications and talking about being drugged out, but still had the pain and all that went with it. The doctor I have now has me on 10 now and I still have alot of pain and in fact have been flared since Thanksgiving. I am disabled now and can't work. Unfortunately I got this way before things started to help people that nothing works, but rest and sleep when the body says to do it know matter what time of the day it is. Weather kills me, too hot or too cold. So as you see warm only comes once in awhile and I have about 3 good months to get things done in and straighten things out that got messed up in my "Fibro Fog" My heart goes out to your wife and to you. It is tough and something that is hard to deal with for you because you see your wife in so much pain and for her to have to deal with it. Having a baby naturally is alot less painful!!! I am here if you need some support or help....I can do what I can do. Have a good day and tell your wife rest is the ingredients and a very soft fluffy bed and pillow.

I would suggest revisiting the home page layout a little bit:
-Making the "You'Re Not Alone" box more prominent, perhaps #1 spot in the middle column.
-I would remove the gadgets component (for now), until there are more gadgets that you can apply to the network.
-I would make the Photos more prominent (middle column) and closer to the top. It will bring in a LOT of the human touch that you need to have in the network.
-Members are probably better located on the left column, closer to the top.
-Activity: reducing the number of recent items to show, and perhaps moved to the left.
-Blog posts, moved to the middle, at about the same level.
-Forum, moved up and adding a few more "recent comments" to display.
-Groups: same column, but a bit further down.

Things to clarify:
-The Wholeness feed is not completely clear as to what it is about and how it relates to fibro.

Besides this, I would say it's a LOT about continuing to get the word out about the network: YouTube, Yahoo! Answers, etc.

Hope this helps, my friend!

One thing that gives me quick relief is hot water. Either shower or heated pools. Massage is great and some ointments with pain meds or cayenne.

Your site is looking good. And it is a good cause. I am sorry that I have not been able to work on my page yet but hope to do that soon. Marilyn
